Thursday, August 21st, 2014

At LSI Toronto, our junior programmes are a great way for students to improve their English, meet new friends from other countries, and visit the attractions that Toronto has to offer.   Students have English classes in the mornings and afternoon and weekend activities, accompanied by an LSI teacher.   This summer, as well as junior students from Portugal, France, Spain, Poland, Croatia, and Mexico, we welcomed a group of students and their group leaders from China, who went on a sightseeing tour of Niagara Falls and French Canada after their programme at LSI before heading home.

We have winter junior programmes available for groups in January/February, and our summer programme is open for individuals and groups. Come join us at LSI Toronto and improve your English while meeting friends from all over the world!

English for Nursing at LSI Auckland

Friday, July 11th, 2014

If you are involved in, or interested in the medical industry, then this course may be for you. English for Nursing is ideal for students who wish to study a Bachelor of Nursing degree, gain valuable work experience in an English speaking environment, and go for NZ Nursing Registration. It is also good for qualified nurses who want to work in the same job in English.

Nursing is one of the careers on New Zealand Immigration’s Long Term Skill Shortage list. Applicants who complete an NZQA-approved Bachelor of Nursing Programme and register as a comprehensive nurse in New Zealand are seen as desirable by the New Zealand government. Approval rates for NZIS’s visa applications are higher when applying to study nursing as it is a more attractive occupational target than many other careers.

The course is made up of General English, IELTS Exam preparation, and specific English for Nursing Modules. The Nursing English modules cover such subjects as Language of the Hospitals, the Healthcare System, Health and Disease, Medical and Anatomical Terminology, Patient Assessment, Diet, Elderly Care, Alternative Treatments, and Medication. We offer the course as a 24 week or 36 week programme. There are minimum entry requirements, so please be sure to contact the school for further information or click here to access our information sheet. The other important thing to note with this programme is that LSI Auckland students are permitted to work for up to 20 hours per week on their Student Visa, giving students the opportunity to find part time work during their stay in NZ.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us! We look forward to welcoming you to LSI Auckland.

The value of LSI Multi-Center courses – a student’s view

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

At LSI we have always promoted our Multi-Center courses as a unique way to combine travelling the world with study and the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of different cultures. Don’t think that just because English is spoken in Australia, Canada, the USA , the UK and New Zealand that our students will have the same experiences wherever they study. Even the language itself can change depending on where you study!

Back in March, the LSI blog featured Japanese student Kayo Yamaguchi as she was leaving the 2010 Winter Olympic host city of Vancouver for sunny San Diego. We caught up with her again in the beginning of May during her last week at LSI San Diego. We were curious how she enjoyed her multi-center experience:

LSI San Diego students on Multi centre course“At first I wanted to go to Vancouver because of the Olympics, but actually I like to stay in hot weather and I wanted to live in California so that is why I decided to move to California after Vancouver. It was a nice decision because I could feel the atmosphere of two countries and compare the two countries. I liked that the student makeup of each school was different. It was very interesting for me to meet people from so many different countries.”

Kayo explained her reasons for learning English:
“I’d like to study at university using my English. I want to study sports management which is why I went to the Olympic city of Vancouver. I am going to study in the UK since London is hosting the next Olympics in 2012.”

From what Kayo was saying it seems we may be seeing her sometime soon at one of our London schools, LSI London Central or LSI London Hampstead.

Success with our new Young Learner’s Programme | London Hampstead

Enjoying the views of London from the London Eye

Enjoying the views of London from the London Eye

Following on from the success of the Young Learner’s course in our Toronto school in 2007, this summer we extended this fantastic programme to one of our UK schools, LSI London Hampstead. This language course, aimed at young people between the ages of 13 to 17, ran between June and August and attracted many eager students from around the world. Carefully designed to provide a balanced mix between formal language classes and informal language learning opportunities via the many social activities offered, the Young Learner’s course has proved to be a roaring success in its first season at London Hampstead.

Whilst only a 15 minute tube ride away from the bustling, cosmopolitan centre of London, LSI London Hampstead is located in one on London’s most beautiful and wealthy suburbs providing the ideal, tranquil environment for younger students.

“My parents choose this course for me and I wasn’t happy to spend all my holiday on a language course instead of being with friends. When I arrived at the course I had so much fun. I made so many new friends and my English improved a lot. I want to go to this school again next summer.” Hans, aged 15, from Germany.

Part of the explanation behind the successful introduction of the Young Learner’s course to LSI London Hampstead, may lie in the family atmosphere offered in the school. School director, Tania Valentin, offers the following insight – “Many people say that the school feels like a family because of the friendly welcoming atmosphere. We get to know all our students as individuals and are there to provide help and advice whenever needed. I think this is especially important for the younger students. Parents want to know their children are being well looked after.”

As a result of the success of the Young Learners’ programmes in the UK and Canada, for 2009 we have decided to extend the programme to the USA. In addition to the Young Learners’ Programmes at Toronto and London Hampstead, we will be also offering the course at LSI San Diego. Find out more about the Young Learners course for 2009. | NEW booking engine

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

LSI International – A brand new booking engine has just been activated on, offering faster and easier access to information about all LSI schools and partner schools in LSI’s international network.

The booking engines is already being used regularly for bookings as well as enquiries at various LSI schools: LSI London Hampstead school director Tania Valentin is very happy with the system: “The new booking engine has facilitated booking processes for our clients and enabled us to show them what LSI London Hampstead is really like!”. School director David Immanuel David Immanuel is looking forward to implementing the system also for English Evening courses in the UK, English and French courses in Paris as well as for the English, Spanish, French, Italian and German courses offered at LSI Zurich and LSI Frankfurt language schools: “The feedback by students is very positive!”
