The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional celebrations in many East and Southeast Asian countries, including China, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Celebrated during the harvest season, it is a time for families and friends to come together, give thanks, and enjoy special foods under the full moon. Around the same time, Korea celebrates Chuseok, a major harvest festival that honours family, heritage, and gratitude through shared meals, traditional games, and cultural activities.
These celebrations provided a wonderful opportunity for students across several LSI schools to come together and share their cultures with fellow classmates. Asian students are an important part of our LSI school communities worldwide, and this year’s celebrations showcased the cultural exchange that makes studying at LSI such a rewarding experience. Students organised events at LSI schools around the world, giving their classmates the chance to experience the traditions, games, and foods that are central to the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chuseok. By sharing these celebrations with their classmates, students gave others a chance to learn about traditions that are an important part of life in their home countries.
At LSI London, students brought Korean culture to life through a range of traditional games and activities: students had the chance to try ttakjichigi, a game in which players use folded paper tiles to flip over their opponent’s tile, as well as gonggi, a popular game that involves tossing and catching small pieces with increasing speed and skill. The games gave students a chance to experience a small part of everyday Korean culture while learning more about the traditions that make Chuseok such a special celebration.
Meanwhile, at LSI Vancouver, students celebrated by sharing traditional Mid-Autumn Festival foods with classmates from around the world. The event was a great opportunity for students to come together, try different flavours, and learn about the customs behind one of Asia’s most important festivals. More than just a chance to enjoy delicious food, the event gave students an opportunity to share their culture with others, and it was a great example of how cultural exchange helps build friendships and brings the international LSI community closer together!

These celebrations are a reminder that learning English at LSI is not only about developing language skills, but also about meeting people from different backgrounds, sharing experiences, and learning from one another.
