Student Activities: A Nature Walk through Evergreen Brickworks Park

As Toronto transitions from a frigid and forbidding late winter into a proper spring, LSI students are increasingly tempted to explore the great outdoors. But how much nature can you really see in the middle of a big city? Believe it or not, you can feel enveloped by forest greens and muddy browns in just a 30 minute walk from LSI Toronto campus! On Friday the 9th, a stroll through historic Rosedale brought us to a trail with steep hills and budding trees. Before long, we found ourselves in beautiful Evergreen Brickworks Park, which used to be a brick factory before being renovated into a mixed-use centre surrounded by nature. The highlight? A wooden boardwalk which allowed us to view the local wildlife in the ponds below. We saw turtles, a frog, and lots of birds that like to make their nests near the water. What about foxes? Sadly, none. Maybe next time!

Ice Cream Quest: Mizzica

Which do you like more, ice cream or gelato? In pursuit of an answer to this delectable question, we stopped by Mizzica Gelateria & Cafe on Queen St. West on May 12th. Sampling and mixing flavours like Guava, Tiramisu, and Mango-Pineapple, we were all ensorcelled by the dark magic of Italian desserts. So are we gelato people now? Ask us again after the next installment of ice cream quest!

Student life: A Home Away From Home
By Sofia Fonseca

“As an international student, being here at LSI has given me the best experiences. Every day is a new challenge for me, from trying not to fall into the TTC delays to keeping in mind every little thing I learn from my classmates’ culture. Since I came here, I’ve met the best friends ever, friends who, even though they just stay a few weeks, I will always keep in my heart, friends who feels like home. We are from different countries, but we connected through small moments… Being at LSI hasn’t just helped me to improve my English, it’s also helped me to build memories, find unexpected love, and discover a version of myself I’m proud of. No matter where life takes me, I’ll carry these moments with me always.”
