January in France has its own ritual and it comes in the form of a cake.

Every January (the first Sunday of the month precisely), galette des rois appears in bakeries across the country. Made with buttery pastry and filled wit almond cream, it’s traditionally shared to celebrate Epiphany and to see who will end up wearing the crown (paper one, sorry to disappoint..).
At LSI Paris, the tradition was celebrated the simple way: by sharing the galette together and seeing who found the fève, the tiny figurine hidden inside one of the slices. Whoever finds it, becomes king or queen for the day!
Manon Viret, part of the LSI Paris staff, told us what this tradition means to her: “For me, this tradition is a chance to gather with family or friends, enjoying not only a warm, delicious frangipane galette, but also the joy of the fève and crown ritual”.
What would be your first wish as king or queen?
